Holy Week, the week from Palm Sunday through to Easter Sunday, is one of the most significant in the Catholic Church's liturgical year. In this week, we see the journey of Jesus: from the promised leader and saviour of the Jewish people, to a beaten and crucified criminal, finally to the Saviour of all people of the world.
Below are a range of resources you can share as a family to join in this journey.

Holy Thursday
On Holy Thursday, Jesus taught us how to follow him: to do what he did. Jesus taught us to serve each other by washing his disciples feet. He also instituted the Eucharist where he made himself the sacrificial lamb that takes away the sins of the world.

Good Friday - Stations of the Cross
Good Friday begins with Jesus being arrested in secret by soldiers. Jesus begins his agonising journey to the cross. On Good Friday, there are two Catholic traditions that take place. Firstly, the Stations of the Cross are reflected on and prayed with. Secondly, there is a veneration of the Cross to show that the cross is not a symbol of death, but of victory over death.

Easter Sunday
Alleluia! Jesus Christ is truly risen!
Easter Sunday begins with Easter Vigil, the most important feast of the Catholic Church's liturgical year. In this celebration we give praise and glory to God who sent his son Jesus to save us from death by resurrecting from the dead. The Season of Easter begins on Easter Sunday and continues for the next 50 days until the feast of Pentecost. |
